What is an embedded tooth?
The gingiva that has not formed or teeth that remain under the bone are named as embedded teeth.
Which teeth can remain as embedded?
Wisdom teeth, dog teeth and small molar teeth can remain embedded. If it is determined that they can not be put in their places as orthodontically (with braces) they should be extracted by chin surgeons with operation.
Under what conditions and when should embedded teeth be extracted?
Wisdom teeth are those teeth that are at the farthest place in the mouth. As they are situated at a place that is difficult to reach and to see, brushing and taking care of them is more difficult than other teeth. Due to insufficient brushing wisdom teeth can get decayed easily and cause pain and mouth odor. In some cases due to narrowness in chin area wisdom teeth can not develop. They can remain as completely being embedded (by remaining both under gingiva and chin bone so as not to be seen) or they can remain as semiembedded under gingiva as being in contact with mouth environment. In this situation they can cause for food to accumulate and remain at areas of gingiva and infection can result. This situation causing for swelling and redness to occur around area where wisdom teeth are located, severe pain spreading to the neck and ears, swelling of lymph nodes, feeling of pain when opening the mouth and swelling is named as pericoronitis. Fully embedded wisdom teeth can put pressure on the teeth in front of them and cause overlapping (bending) teeth. They can also cause teeth to decay by putting pressure on them. Embedded wisdom teeth that are not recognized for long years can cause kists with big sizes to form and for serious problems to arise. Even if they may not cause any problem in order for other teeth to be properly aligned wisdom teeth should be extracted for orthodontics treatment purposes. For this reason it is required for wisdom teeth to be extracted by local anesthesia
After the operation of embedded teeth how should oral care and nutrition taking be like?
On the first day after extraction spitting, teeth brushing, intense washing, using of pipettes, and mouth washing should not be realized. On the first two days warm and soft food with pieces should be consumed. After consumption of each food and teeth-brushing the antiseptic mouth-washing that is recommended by doctor should be applied. Painkilling drugs and if recommended antibiotics should be used regularly. Cigarettes should not be smoked within first 48 hours in order not to disrupt with the recovery process.
